Program Overview
Welcome to the St. Vincent Medical Center Orthopedic residency program. The residency is a 5-year program that is approved to accept 3 new residents per year. Our mission is to provide the medical knowledge, clinical skill and dedication to life-long learning necessary to become a general orthopedic surgeon in a tertiary care center, in the community setting, or work in an academic setting, as well as equipped to gain any fellowship opportunities desired. This program provides a broad exposure to Orthopedic Surgery cases in a tertiary center, as well as several community hospitals.
Program Aims
- To achieve and maintain excellence in the training of Orthopedic Surgeons in patient care, surgery and research.
- To provide the physician with the basic information, skill and motivation necessary to become a general Orthopedic Surgeon.
- Provides a broad exposure to orthopedic surgery cases in a tertiary center as well as several community hospitals.
- Provide an organized, progressive education experience with increasing patient care responsibilities over a five-year period, in a setting which has a diverse patient population and a teaching staff with professional ability, enthusiasm and commitment to teaching.
- Assumes responsibilities for compassionate, safe and effective care of patients, consistent with the resident’s level of education and experience.
- To promote ongoing acquisition of medical knowledge, each resident is expected to participate fully in the educational and scholarly activities of the residency program.
- Required to assume responsibility for teaching and supervising other residents and medical students.
Program History
The program received initial accreditation from ACGME on 7/1/2019.
Prior to single accreditation with the ACGME the program was accredited by the American Osteopathic Association.
